CLASS SUMMARY: This class is responsible for the overall management of transit operations and safety policies, which includes, investigating and identifying safety problems/needs; develops and recommends solutions to meet regulatory standards. |

1. |
Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. |

2. |
Conducts incident investigations to determine cause and damages and develop plans to prevent recurrence. |

3. |
Performs equipment and facility inspections to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations; evaluates work procedures and equipment to ensure adequacy and safety. |

Develops and coordinates comprehensive safety training programs in collaboration with a third party consultant. |

5. |
Prepares a variety of reports, reviews, assessments, and databases regarding accidents, inspections, and/or other related safety topics. |

6. |
Ensures process and equipment safety compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements which includes alcohol and drug testing. |

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require): Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health and three to five years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. |

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, and extreme temperatures.
